In recent days – and for the 14th time in a row – the Bank of England has hiked up interest rates again, bringing more pain to homeowners on variable rate mortgages or just about to come out of a fixed rate deal.

The gloom has also spread to the near future. The Bank has said that interest rates won’t come down until there is clear evidence of a drop in inflation – and at the time of writing, prices seem only to be going skywards.

All in all, it isn’t a great time to be considering a move unless you’re mortgage free and/or downsizing. Taking on a mortgage that might increase until who-knows-when seems not to be the smartest move right now.

However, that doesn’t mean we should necessarily sit around with our tin hats on until the financial storm has passed. The present difficulties are an opportunity to have a hard look at our homes, see what we have and where we could make changes. By choosing to improve instead of move you will save money on higher mortgages and moving fees, while investing in your property for better times ahead – hopefully!

At Premier Windows, we have a variety of solutions that will help to improve your Buckinghamshire home. We are the area’s most trusted and reputable windows, doors and conservatory company, and we are proud to work with all our customers on home improvements that will not break the bank.

When people start to give their homes a good once-over, they often notice that their windows and doors could to with a little TLC, or even replacing altogether. Wooden window frames that have rotted or uPVC doubled-glazed ones that are discoloured or have condensation trapped between the panes certainly could do with an upgrade. Fortunately, we have a wide variety of uPVC and aluminium frame options that will suit any property across our region, making your home stylish and warm.

Did you know that both uPVC and aluminium are incredibly thermally efficient, meaning that you’re going to lose very little heat from your home once they’re installed? So by replacing your current windows you could actually save money on heating bills – certainly not something to sniff at in this present climate.

Another area of concern is often the front door. A shabby front door says a lot about a property, and if you’re investing in the future it’s a great idea to be able to open a welcoming and strong front door to any prospective buyers. Again, we have doors in both uPVC and aluminium, plus a composite option, and all these come in a range of attractive colours and outstanding security options. If you really want your home to sparkle, you might consider investing in fashionable bifold or patio doors, which bring the outside inside and lighten up kitchens, living and dining rooms. Check out our door buying guide for information on how to get the most value out of your investment.

Finally, if you really want to add the wow factor it may be worth considering in an extension such as a conservatory or orangery. These buildings will give you the extra space you might be craving via a house move, and will undoubtedly add value to your existing property. Plus, modern conservatories and orangeries have great thermal properties and can be used all year round, making them excellent options for home offices, kitchen extensions or creating an open plan living area.
